This position has multiple duty locations within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), Division of Community Health Investigations (DCHI) in Anchorage, AK, Kansas City, KS, San Francisco, CA and Dallas, TX.

The incumbent serves as an Environmental Health Scientist in a regional office of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry(ATSDR), Division of Community Health Investigations and is considered a technical expert in the environmental health field.  They will work closely with other office/divisions within ATSDR, CDC, state health and environmental agencies, local health and environmental agencies.  Provide expert analysis of environmental data associated with uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, and controlled hazardous waste facilities.  Independently evaluate environmental data for quality assurance and quality control.  Provide scientific expertise required to assess site-specific public health impacts of identified hazardous substances and to develop appropriate responses for Health Consultations which have been requested by Federal, State, local agencies and the public.  Provide environmental health and technical advice and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances.  Defends and negotiates ATSDR's opinions and policies before other agencies and the public.  Attends, leads and participates in public meetings and hearings to represent ATSDR and to clarify or defend ATSDR's environmental and public health positions concerning Public Health Assessments and Health Consultations.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. 

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in developing, analyzing, advising, and/or implementing public health programs involving environmental health sciences, hazardous waste, and/or emergency chemical releases.  

All applicants must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. 

Since this position has a specific education requirement, you must submit a copy of your college transcripts or acceptable alternative as indicated on Required Documents. If selected, you will be required to submit an original official transcripts before being appointed.
