The Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.  This position may be used for the purpose of filling multiple positions throughout the school year.  Temporary positions may be converted to permanent without further competition, but conversion is not guaranteed.

Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two schools systems, the Department of Defense Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS).  DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for the education of approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.  The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.  DoDEA is currently accepting applications for the above position(s).  As a result of this recruiting bulletin, a register will be established and may be used for the purpose of filling temporary as well as term part-time, seasonal positions open competitively.

EDUCATION & TRAINING TECHNICIAN (Kindergarten), GS-1702-04

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees in this position assist the Kindergarten teacher in the implementation of the full-day Kindergarten program for early childhood education by performing the following tasks:  Assumes responsibility for conducting and guiding children in group activities such as reading, fine arts activities, etc., according to the guidelines and strategies of "Building the Primary Classroom, " the DoDEA Kindergarten content standards, and other educational and DoDEA directives, regulation, guides, manuals and handbooks as well.  May monitor students on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior and observation of safety rules.

Candidates should describe experience, education, and/or training that demonstrates their ability to provide support services to professional educators in a classroom setting.  Include all experience working with children in any capacity in a group or on an individual basis in an educational or recreational/social setting. 

EDUCATION & TRAINING TECHNICIAN (Special Education), GS-1702-04

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees in this position provide assistance in teaching skills in toileting, feeding, eating, and personal hygiene.  Lift, carry, transfer and facilitate the motor development of physically impaired students.  Observe and record student's behaviors and activities.  Tutor students. Perform a variety of administrative tasks.  Assist handicapped students to and from school.  The employee may be assigned to work in classroom media center, health clinic, or school office.  May monitor students on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior and observation of safety rules.

Candidates should describe experience, education and/or training that demonstrates their ability to provide support services to children with disabilities in an educational environment. Include all experience gained in any capacity with disabled individuals in an educational, social, or recreational environment which provided knowledge of the specialized requirements of disabled individuals.

EDUCATION & TRAINING TECHNICIAN (Sure Start), GS-1702-04

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees in this position collaborate with and assist the Sure Start teacher in the implementation of the Sure Start Program for enrolled children.  Sure Start Technicians assist the Sure Start Teacher by providing administrative support.  They plan and assist with room arrangement, activities, and schedules.  Conduct and guide children in group activities.  Participate in home visits.  Contribute to reports and assessments.  Assist in planning and conducting parent activities. Serve as Sure Start committee member.  The employee may be assigned to work in a classroom, media center, health clinic or school office. May monitor students on playground, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behaviors and observation of safety rules.

Candidates should describe all experience, education and/or training gained in any capacity with children, especially pre-kindergarten ages, in an education, social or recreational environment that involved the learning, health/nutrition, or social activities of pre-kindergarten children.

EDUCATION & TRAINING TECHNICIAN, GS-1702-04

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee assists teachers and other professional educators in instructional programs and classroom learning activities.  The employee may be assigned to work in a classroom, media center, health clinic or school office.  May monitor students on playgrounds, in classroom, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior and observation of safety rules.

Candidates should describe experience, education and/or training that demonstrates their ability to provide support services to professional educators in a classroom setting.  Include all experience working with children in any capacity in a group or on an individual basis in an educational or recreational/social environment.

Applicants must possess one year general work experience that shows your ability to perform progressively more complex, responsible, or difficult duties; and that shows your ability to learn the specific work of this job.  Examples of general experience include:  non-professional work of a technical or support nature in the field of education and training and/or progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.  

Post-high school level education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.

-Qualified- Candidates in this category possess one year general experience or two years education above high school (60 semester hours).
