Immigration Services Analysts in Information Liaison Unit at the National Records Center support the operational components of DHS by providing accurate and timely information from alien records stored at the NRC as well as assisting by interpreting data contained in electronic systems.  This position supports the lawful administration of immigration benefits by USCIS and the execution of enforcement actions by ICE and CBP; and, as such, is a critical role in the efficient operation of those components of DHS. This position of IMMIGRATION SERVICES ANALYST starts at a salary of $38,790.00(GS-07 step 1), with promotion potential to $50,431.00 (GS-07 step 10).  Apply for this exciting opportunity to become a member of the National Records Center, Lee's Summit, MO within DHS US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.

 

As a Immigration Services Analyst, your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Responding to requests from DHS personnel for information and/or documentation from records housed at the National Records Center (NRC) and the Kansas City Federal Records Center (FRC)

  • Reviewing alien files, interpreting contents, and providing relevant information by phone, fax, or e-mail to law enforcement and benefits components of DHS to enable them to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently

  • Updating electronic systems to accurately reflect data contained in alien files

  • Performing research in electronic systems and paper records in support of investigations conducted by National Security agencies, multi-agency task forces, and other law enforcement entities

  • Providing support to both the operational and administrative functions within USCIS

 

Your responsibilities may also include:

 

  • Serving as a mentor/trainer for other team members

  • Identifying trends and recommending the need for clarification to and development of procedures, information, and training

  • Assisting in developing presentations, conference materials, and other communications for supervisors and management

  • Conducting data queries; validating and analyzing data; and creating reports for management on program elements

GS-7: You qualify at the GS-7 level if you possess the following:

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level that demonstrates your ability to: write detailed office memoranda and letters to be approved for final use;  read and comply with instructions to complete a task; provide case synopses by e-mail in response to routine inquiries; serve internal customers with positive results; perform accurate data entry for official national agency records; work with others and accomplish assigned tasks; provide basic information from systems and files to assist with information requests; work in a team environment in completing multi-task jobs with time constraints; and work in a multi-shift environment with various tasks assigned to fixed shifts..  OR

  • You may substitute successful completion of one year of fulltime graduate education for the experience required at the GS-7 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.  OR

  • You may also substitute superior academic achievement for the experience required at the GS-7 level. You must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society.


EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION:

 

Combining Experience and Education: If you do not qualify based on experience or education alone, you may be able to qualify based on a combination of your experience and education.  Follow the directions below in order to convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages together to see if they total 100 percent.  To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience.  The GS-7 level requires 12 months of qualifying experience.

Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this announcement (Friday, November 16, 2012).
