The duty station is located in Oneida, TN.  Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Park Headquarters, is located between Oneida, TN and Jamestown, TN; Stearns, KY is located 15 miles north of Oneida, TN and 3 miles South of Whitley City, KY.  Housing, shopping, churches, medical clinics, hospital, elementary, middle, and high schools; and community colleges are available.  The nearest metropolitan area is Knoxville, TN (approximately 75 miles from Park Headquarters).  The climate is moderate with summer highs in the 90's and winter lows may reach 0 degrees.  Precipitation averages 51 inches annually.  Average snowfall are 1-6 inches and last only a few days.  The Big South Fort NRRA is a 125,000 acre natural area with three (3) developed campgrounds; numerous picnic areas; backcountry camping, and over 400 miles of various trails from horse to bike to hiking.  Also present is a major river with up to Class V rapids and six (6) boat ramps and launches.   The OBRI consists of 45.2 miles of rivers and streams in deep gorges on the Cumberland Plateau.  Rural in character Wartburg is only 45 miles from Knoxville, TN, a metropolitan area.  Wartburg is located only 23 miles from the City of Oak Ridge, TN.  Grocery stores, library, health clinic, banks, high schools and elementary schools are available locally.  Hospitals and major shopping centers are available in Oak Ridge and Knoxville.  The climate is moderate: Summer temperatures average in the high 80's and low 90's with relatively high humidity.  Winter temperatures occasionally reach zero degrees.

This position serves as an Electrician for Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (BISO) and Obed Wild and Scenic River (OBRI), units of the National Park Service.   Performs all preventive maintenance, operational checks, repair, layout, installation, troubleshooting, tracing, locating defects and modifications on all new and existing electrical systems park-wide, electrical generators and fire suppression systems park-wide.  The incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment park-wide in accordance with CFR19910.331-5 and the National Electric Code (NEC)  Work consists of installing and troubleshooting meters, load centers, circuit breakers, equipment controls, lighting and power outlets, disconnects, solenoids, relays and lighting fixtures.  he/she accurately bends and installs EMT, rigid, flex and PVC conduits for installation of electric systems,   The incumbent must be able to appropriately apply the NEC to projects in order to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair.  Work is undertaken in visitor centers, museums, hotels, restaurants, employee housing areas, maintenance facilities, public buildings, residences, and/or shops.  Installs, maintains and repairs electric motors, pumps, control wiring, relays and starters, particularly those units required for sewer treatment plant operation, water systems, and HVAC.  Determines the proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems equipment and controls.  Plans and lays out the routing, placement, type and size of wires.  Ensures continuity, tests and balances electrical loads.  Locates distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices.  Determines size, type and arrangement to meet applicable codes for the safe operation of electrical systems, circuits and equipment park-wide.  Works from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, repair manuals and related codes:  National Electric  Code, Uniform Building Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code, and NFPA 70A Electrical code for one- and two- family dwellings, park and manufacturers' standards of preventive maintenance.  May perform some carpentry and painting work in areas where electrical systems have been installed and for minor building repairs and modifications.  This requires a thorough working knowledge of power tools, hand tools, construction materials, premixed paints, paint rollers and brushes.  Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows standard safety procedures while performing the varied duties of this position.
