JOB SUMMARY:

This is a TERM appointment with Initial Appointment Not to Exceed 13 months. May be extended up to four (4) years.

Type of Appointment: This is a Career/Career-Conditional Appointment [This is a full-time, non-dual status (competitive) permanent position and does not require National Guard Membership].

This position is located in the National Guard Bureau, State Adjutant General, Air National Guard Wing, Joe Foss Filed in Sioux Falls, SD.

The incumbent will serve as the Wing Chief of Information Protection, administering the Information Protection (IP) Program to include protection from espionage, terrorism, and threats of unauthorized disclosure and/or compromise of information or material considered vital to Wing and Command mission interests, national defense or national security.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.
  • Reference Title 32 USC 709 & National Guard Technician Act for competitive
  • and excepted employees.
  • Only experience gained by closing date of this position will be considered

  • Advise installation project engineers, project managers, command mission leads, action officers, and effected operational officers of their responsibility to provide properly classified management guidance and specification requirements during performance of respective duties.
  • Evaluate compliance of activities with complex security requirements, identifies deficiencies, and ensures corrective action is identified for each deficiency found.
  • Make information protection risk assessments and risk management/mitigation for security strategies and recommendations based on intelligence-derived threat issues that may require deviations from policies.
  • Develop processes, methods and recommendations to deter intelligence gathering or risk exposure of information to ultimately prevent the compromise, loss, unauthorized access/disclosure, destruction, distortion or non-accessibility of information.

In order to qualify for GS-0080-12 Information Security Specialist, you must meet the following:

Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that includes: applying and developing policy specific to operating requirements, procedures, techniques, equipment, and methods to maintain information security; inspecting operating information security programs for adequacy, efficiency, and need for improvement; interpreting security policies from higher organizational levels, developing local policy, and providing instructions for security implementation; creating control systems for selective and targeted release of classified or sensitive security-related information to authorized staff; applying risk avoidance and risk mitigation strategies to deter unauthorized access/disclosure of protected information for critical security infrastructure.


Conditions of Employment:
1. May be required to work some nights and weekends.
2. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are not authorized.
3. Selectee required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
4. Workdays: Tuesday through Friday 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
