JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win…in air, space and cyberspace.

The salary shown is the minimum amount to be paid and may be set higher commensurate with individual’s qualifications and experience.

 

This position is located in the Directorate of Athletics, Physical Education Department, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado.

 

This is an 18-month TERM Appointment beginning approximately 2 January 2013 and terminating 30 June 2014.  Subsequent reappointments of up to three years in length will be based upon an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs and funding availability.  This position in the the Excepted Civil Service.

 

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is located west of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  USAFA is an undergraduate institution which awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation.  Faculty applications are invited from candidates who can contribute to this mission by interacting with cadets, both in and out of the classroom.  The student body consists of approximately 4000 men and women representing every state and several foreign countries. The curriculum includes core academic and professional courses, and 31 disciplinary and interdisciplinary majors.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, teaching undergraduate exercise physiology course, along with other Physical Education courses to include combatives, aquatics and lifetime sports; testing and training of intercollegiate athletes; conducting research and serving on internal committees.

 

Commitment to the academic and military development of cadets and the teaching and role modeling of character and leadership skills to future US Air Force officers are critical.

Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree and experience in the field of specialization (Exercise Physiology).  ACSM certification and/or NSCA certification is highly desirable.

 

Preference will be given to those that have obtained an earned doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or other closely related discipline.

 

Successful candidates will be those that have: Evidence of outstanding university-level teaching experience; Demonstrated experience in testing and training intercollegiate level athletics, along with a background in sports vision training; Demonstrated expertise in research and other scholarly activities, such as admission of peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.

 

Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, and initiative.


EDUCATION:

 

You MUST provide a copy of your "OFFICIAL" undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree transcript to support your educational claim.  Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  Photocopies of "OFFICIAL" transcripts are acceptable for the application process.  However, if selected, you will be required to provide (original) copies of your "OFFICIAL" transcripts.

 

FOREIGN EDUCATION:

 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education (DOE) approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

The selected candidate will be subject to a security investigation leading to successful completion of a background investigation with a favorable adjudication.  The selectee's failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for termination.

 

Occasional travel may be required in the performance of incumbent's official duties.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Applicants possessing the required qualifications as contained within this announcement will be evaluated and ranked by a Faculty Selection Committee based on the extent to which their experience and education relate to the requirements of the position.  A personal interview and presentation to the faculty may be required of the top applicants.
