This position is located in the Facilities Maintenance Department, Office of the Deputy/Chief of Staff, Naval War College.  The person selected for this position will perform a variety of duties involving the maintenance and repair of grounds, interior and exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures, utilities and general equipment.  The person selected makes minor repairs to plumbing and electrical fixtures using a variety of equipment, provides architectural repairs to buildings using carpentry, wallboard, plaster or painting.  Primary skills are carpentry and electrical, though plumbing, painting and roofing repair may be included.   

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be a US Citizen.

  • Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

·         Performs a variety of tasks involving the upkeep and repair of buildings, grounds, structures, fixtures, and utilities

·         Constructs/repairs a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, ceilings, door and window frames

·         Planes, sands, paints/stains and finishes completed work when necessary

·         Maintains a clean and orderly work site and shop space

·         Identifies appropriate repair methods and materials according to accepted building and construction practices

Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Helper without more than normal supervision performing basic maintenance and/or minor repairs to commercial buildings, grounds, structures, fixtures, and utilities, involving two or more of the following areas:  electrical, heating systems, masonry, carpentry, painting, plumbing;  using basic hand tools and common hand-held power tools; completing work involving several familiar processes which require remembering directions and/or work sequences; understanding and complying with instructions from higher graded employees or supervisors; cooperating with coworkers to accomplish tasks involving joint efforts; collaborating with other team members to complete assignments as part of a large project; using proper lifting techniques to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs.; using safety equipment such as safety gloves, hard hats, ear plugs, safety glasses and proper foot wear when working with tools and equipment.
