The licensed practical nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in their assigned work areas. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. The staff nurse demonstrates leadership when providing and improving patient care.

 

 

This is an open continuous announcement. Bay Pines VA Healthcare System will accept applications and make selections for vacancies as they occur. There may or may not be actual/projected vacancies at the time you submit your application.  Positions may be filled as permanent, temporary with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will be determined by the Nurse Professional Standards Board.

 

 

General Nurse Series Position Summary:

                                    

The license practical nurse will provide nursing care in either in  the acute med-surg units, long term care or the primary care arena. The LPN will function under the direction of the registered nurse and will provide direct hands on patient care. Duties will include but are not limited to patient intake and documentation, diabetic checks, point of care testing including, FSG and EKGs, vital signs, health screening including ETOH, depression and PTSD. Licensed Practical Nurse will report adverse effects of medication and or treatments. Staff LPNs will be expected to record patient histories and document patient health conditions and concerns. This position may require standing and walking for extended periods of time as well as hearing and vision corrected to the near normal range.

 

Psychiatric Nurse Series Position Summary:

Psychiatric nurses should have previous inpatient psychiatric experience and should be knowledgeable in the management of common psychiatric and addictive disorders including management of behavioral emergencies. Routine admissions may be voluntary or in-voluntary and cover a wide range of psychiatric illnesses. The successful candidate will assist in management of psychiatric emergencies, have therapeutic interactions with patients, and assist with treatment plans. The LPN will work under the direction of RN and be accountable to the nurse manager or her designate.

Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38USC 7402(d) and 7407 (d).

 

You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.  

 

You must successfully complete a pre-employment physical to include drug screening, suitability screening (background check) and credentialing prior to appointment.  After appointment, there is a requirement for random testing for illegal drug use.


 

Pay will be determined by Professional Standards Board (PSB).

 

 

Basic requirements:

1.   LPN with free and clear license.

2.   Provider CPR Card required (BLS)

2.   Must have minimum of one year recent clinical experience.

2.   Minimum of one year mental health/psychiatric experience required for mental health positions.

4.   Must have strong customer service skills and positive demeanor.

5.   Able to prioritize and function effectively in high volume and crisis situations.

6.   Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills to enter and retrieve data.

7.   He/she has the physical and mental capability to satisfactorily perform assigned duties.
