Reclamation is a contemporary water management agency. Reclamation is best known for Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River and Folsom Dam on the American River. Reclamation is seeking a certified water operator looking to gain experience in the power industry. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Would you enjoy ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Government facilities? Responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of a Quality Assurance Program for operating and monitoring the domestic water treatment distribution system and wastewater collection and treatment system.

Relocation expenses are authorized with the exception of the Guaranteed Home Sale Provision.  First-post-of-Duty relocation expenses are authorized for new appointments or reinstatement eligibles.

  • Operates multiple utility systems (Water Treatment Operations, Water Distribution Operator, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations, and Wastewater Collection System) to provide domestic treated drinking water and maintain the distribution network for delivery of drinking water to all serviced connections.
  • Collects samples of Wastewater influent and effluent and treated drinking water from treatment plants, and distribution systems.
  • Performs a variety of tests related to wastewater discharge and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • Performs preventive inspections and maintenance on chemical feeders, chlorinators and other equipment.
  • Prepares required reports concerning the operation of the entire wastewater treatment facility and collection system and water treatment facility and distribution system and submits to the Arizona and Nevada Department of Environmental Resources and Environmental Protection Agency.

Requirements for Water/Wastewater System Operator I:
Applicants must possess a current Water Treatment Operator certification (not operator in-training) at a Grade 2 or higher level for the State of Nevada AND have two (2) full years of experience in Water Treatment operations.
OR
Applicants must possess a current Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate at a Grade 2 or higher level for the State of Arizona AND have two (2) years of experience in Wastewater Treatment operations.  Other state(s) certifications will be accepted if they are equal to or exceed the Arizona/Nevada Certifications.

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements.  You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element identified below and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the Job Elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.

Job Elements:

1) Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision.  (Screenout)
2) Operation of water quality equipment.
3) Technical practices.
4) Dexterity and safety.

Driver’s License/History: Operation of a Government vehicle required; therefore, you must possess a valid state driver’s license. A driving history check is required.

Working Conditions: Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods.  May be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent may work in proximity to high voltage and currents and subject to electrical burns and shocks.  Incumbent may be exposed to considerable noise, greases, oils, fumes, chemicals, and danger of falling. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.  

Pre-employment Physical:
 If selected, you are required to obtain and successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying to your ability to perform the duties of the position.  This is not required if a comparable examination was required for placement in your current position and was completed within the last year; however, verifiable documentation of a comparable physical is required. Periodic (annual or biennial) physical examinations are required to be successfully passed for continued employment.
