JOB SUMMARY:

Since 1952,  Iowa City Veteran Affairs Health Care System has been improving the health and well being of our Veterans. In addition to the main facility we provide care in the medical center's Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Decorah, Dubuque, Galesburg, Bettendorf, Ottumwa, Quincy, Sterling and Waterloo.

Licensed Practical Nurses selected for this position are accountable to the nurse manager of that particular work area.  Licensed Practical Nurses perform the full range of direct patient care for patients with medical conditions.  Prepare, administer, and record medications and IV fluids in accordance with policies.  Perform personal nursing care suchs as responding to patient's nursing needs, physical comfort and emotional needs.  Conduct patient care planning, which includes completing assignments in a timely manner with constructive utilization of remaining time.  Assess patient by indentifying changes in condition and reporting them in a timely manner.  Complete required patient care documentation and records significant observations and actions.  Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.  Demonstrate interpersonal skills and customer service standards such as communication, courtesy, and discretion when working and interacting with patients, families, and internal/external customers.

 

Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and/or the National League of Nursing at the time the program was completed or completion of education or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed qualifying for a full LPN/LVN licensure.
  • Full, active, and unrestricted license.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.

    GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

    Applicants who are selected will be forwarded to the licensed practical nurse professional standards board for review.  The board will set initial grade and step, taking into account; experience, education, and other factors.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:  Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.   VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.  This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
