This is a temporary Student Internship opportunity under the Pathways Program. This Program has as its major objective the employment of students, giving them a chance of work in Federal agencies so they can resume or continue their education without interruption caused by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while school is in session and full-time (if needed to) when students are on vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed. Students are entitled to annual (vacation) leave and sick leave and are eligible to enroll in health benefits after 1 year.
Brief Description of Duties:
- Collects and assembles biological data needed for inclusion in environmental documents, studies and reports.
- Completes field surveys to obtain specifically requested field data.
- Insures collected and assembled data adquately addresses requests, e.g., mapping, identifying, verifying, counting or collecting.
- Compliles field data; enters data into a computer database and summarizes it in tabular, graphic, or narrative form.
-Uses computer software to update electronic files, generate standard reports, prepare maps and prepare spreadsheets.

GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled OR 6 months of general experience and six months of specialized experience (such as, biological or physical science technician, or mathematical technician). General experience is defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
Education: One year of full-time academic study is defined as completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter units or the equivalent in an accredited college or university - OR - at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical educational program.
You must submit proof of current student status by furnishing a copy of your current college transcript(s)(unofficial copy is acceptable). Copy of transcript must include courses of the semester/quarter you are currently enrolled in or student schedule for the upcoming semester verifying at least half-time enrollment status. If selected, you will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify your educational qualifications prior to reporting for work.
