JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center located in Millington, TN.   The Finance Center mission is to provide responsive, professional operational finance and accounting day-to-day support to the US Army Corps of Engineers worldwide.  The Finance Center prides itself on being the premier, world-class provider of finance and accounting services, and embraces continuous learning opportunities for the workforce to ensure critical, high quality skill sets.

 

About the Pathways Internship Program:

The purpose of the Pathways Intern Employment Program is to provide the intern with exposure to public service, enhance educational experience, and support educational goals. The program is formally structured to give interns the opportunity to work in positions related to their academic/career goals. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the program. A written agreement is required between the US Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center and the intern. 

 

Within 120 calendar days after completing educational requirements, the employing agency may non-competitively promote and convert an intern to a career/career-conditional or term appointment. The conversion is not guaranteed and is based on the needs of the agency.

 

Work Schedule:  Work schedules may be either part-time or full-time.   

Current Students from accredited educational institutions interested in paid Internship opportunities with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center that reside within the local commuting area. The local commuting area includes any population center and the surrounding localities where people live and routinely travel back and forth daily to their jobs.

 

NOTE: You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship.  If you cannot, you are ineligible for this program. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be accepted or enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good standing
  • Academic course load must be at least half-time
  • Must reside in local commuting area of vacancy; moving expenses not paid
  • Copies of College Transcripts MUST be submitted with application
  • Business travel not required
  • Must be at least 16 years of Age.

As an Intern, you will receive continuing guidance in the methodology and performance of work assignments involving working on a wide variety of reviewing accounting documents pertaining to purchase orders and requests, invoices, daily activity records and other account data; examining disbursement and collection vouchers to ensure they have necessary approvals and that the data are arithmetically correct and correct clerical errors, if necessary;  reviewing funding previously committed, by account and appropriation and ensuring that the amount will not cost over-obligation, and that the correct account and appropriation are cited;  refer discrepancies to higher level accounting personnel; and post accounting information to data transaction sheets to reflect correct accounting classification and utilization of funds in accordance with detailed specific guidelines.

General Schedule

US Army Corps of Engineers Pathways Intern candidates will meet the qualification requirements consistent with the OPM qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. Candidates will be required to meet the qualification standards for the position(s) for which they are applying.

 

For GS-3: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study in pursuit of an Associate's or higher degree in a business related major.  

 

The classification of the intern positions (series and grade) will depend upon the field of study and level of coursework of the candidate. Many positions have specific educational requirements, so we encourage you to provide a complete description of your educational achievements.
