The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.  This vacancy announcement may be used for the purpose of filling multiple positions throughout the school year.  Temporary positions may be converted to permanent without further competition, but conversion is not guaranteed.

This position is an Office Automation Clerk with the Department of Defense Domestic and Dependent Elementary School (DDESS). Duties include word processing, and may also include other software, such as spreadsheets, electronic mail, calendar, databases, graphics, desktop publishing and similar packages.  The work requires knowledge of general office automation software and is performed on a microcomputer or mainframe network.  Temporary positions may be converted to permanent without further competition, but conversion is not guaranteed.

Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.

Creates, copies, edits, calculates, revises, retrieves, stores, and prints a wide range of documents in final form (e.g., correspondence, reports, graphs, calendar, statistics, mailing labels, etc.)  Transmits, receives, and acknowledges electronic mail and messages.  Responsible for correct spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and proper format.  Uses advanced functions or software such as word processing, calendar, electronic mail, spreadsheets, database, and graphics.  Reformats or manipulates existing databases to meet reporting requirements. Receives and answers routine telephone inquires.  Receives, routes, and distributes mail.  Maintains and replenishes office supplies.  Updates manuals on policies, directives, studies, etc.  Performs a wide variety of record keeping, reporting, and informational duties in support of organizational programs, projects, and studies.  Prepares registration packets and enrolls students.  Completes, submits, and maintains time cards.  Collects, receipts, and  prepares bank deposits.  Prepares requests for payment, analysis of deposits, and purchase orders for private funds.  Distributes and maintains school lunch funds.  Calls and assigns substitute teachers.

Applicant must have one year general experience or two years post-high school level education.  General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.  

Post-high school level education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

 

Typing Proficiency Requirements. In addition, to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, applicants must include a certificate of proficiency or self certify that they can type at least 40 words per minute. Your resume must support your self-certification of your typing ability. Otherwise, you may not meet the minimum requirements for this position.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsiblities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
