This is a key position within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As a Writer Editor, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • develop written products, such as official correspondence and responses to congressional questions that articulate, interpret, and explain highly complex, potentially controversial, and important agency programs, regulations, policies, handbooks, manuals, and laws; 
  • research technical documents to develop pertinent information; verify the accuracy of information by conducting independent research and interviews with subject matter experts; and/or coordinate with operational components to obtain or verify information;
  • edit the work of others and provide guidance on appropriate rules of grammar, style and consistency; and
  • transform publications into postings for agency website and monitor site for material, style and content.

You qualify at the GS-12 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.  Examples include:

  • proofreading written material to ensure compliance with established format and agency/organizational policy, and exercising discretion as to form, content, and tone of written documents; 
  • editing the work of others by applying appropriate rules of grammar and style, format, organization, spelling, syntax, punctuation, parallel construction, correlation of parts, and consistency;
  • conducting extensive research to locate relevant information using a variety of databases; and
  • working with authors, managers, subject matter experts, and other operational staff to develop written work products that explain a variety of topics, such as agency/organizational programs, regulations, policies, and technical subject matter.

Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

  3. Qualified:  Applicants possessing the basic qualifications, with general knowledge, skills, and abilities.
