This position is located in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Laboratory of Animal Medicine Section (LAM).

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Biologist, providing assistance to one or more senior investigators by performing laboratory experiments in support of biomedical research programs and projects.  Specifically, you will perform the following:

  • Assume responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, and management of all experiments and experimental protocols;
  • Develop methods for and collect, analyze, organize and record experimental data in a form suitable for publication and future reference by others;
  • Carry out a variety of sophisticated methods for analyses of data, applying standard statistical methods such as dispersion, analysis of variance, and regression and correlation analysis;
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory;
  • Play a major role in the training and teaching of laboratory staff.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualification Requirements for the GS-0401 series:

A.  Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree (or graduate) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position being filled;

OR

B.  Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements indicated above, you must meet the additional experience requirement as described below:

GS-12 - (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:  independently developing, planning, and implementing scientific biologic research ; collecting, studying, developing, assembling, and/or analyzing factual scientific data; developing and preparing comprehensive reports, analytical interpretations, conclusions, or recommendations, typically for scientific publication; and calibrating and operating sophisticated laboratory instruments to conduct tests and analyses.
