GS-5: You qualify at the GS-5 level if you meet at one of the following:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level performing duties such as: performing a variety of record keeping, reporting, and informational duties; compiling, maintaining, and updating automated records; and responding to requests for procedural information.
Substitution of Education for Experience: You may substitute successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-5 grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
Combining Education and Experience: Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience also may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-5 grade level.
GS-6: You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-6 level:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level performing duties such as: routine functions (e.g., booking and record searches) associated with processing those arrested or detained by law enforcement officials; examining legal documents for completeness and accuracy and then routing them appropriately; and, providing routine information on specific and clearly defined questions and issues regarding law enforcement policies, practices and procedures.
GS-7: You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-7 level:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level performing duties such as: examining legal documents for conformance with procedures and requirements and determining appropriate action; preparing warrants and travel documents or other arrangements; using office software to prepare reports and maintain records and track the status of cases; and determining the charges/charging parties associated with deportation/removal activities.
GS-8: You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-8 level:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level performing duties such as: examining detention and deportation documents for conformance with procedures and requirements and determining appropriate action; managing detained and non-detained dockets and researching detainee history using multiple sources to establish identity and citizenship; collecting, analyzing and evaluating data from law enforcement databases; maintaining documentation for travel or acquisitions, consistent with record keeping requirements; coordinating escorts and transportation associated with deportation/removal activities; and exercising quality control over bond paperwork.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: In addition to the above minimum qualification requirements, applicants must demonstrate in their application that they are:
- Typing Certification: You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. You can self-certify by submitting a statement that you can type this speed.
- General Office Skills: Applicants must possess knowledge of general office automation software, practices, and procedures.
