JOB SUMMARY:

The National Defense University is the premier center for Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) and is under the direction of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. The University’s main campus is on Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. The Joint Forces Staff College is located in Norfolk, VA.


             This position is being announced under OPM's Direct Hire Authority.  This position will be filled at the GS-13 level.

 

The National Defense University (NDU) educates military and civilian leaders through teaching, research, and outreach in national security strategy, national military strategy, and national resource strategy; joint and multinational operations; information strategies, operations, and resource management; acquisition; and regional defense and security studies.  NDU is an information age university for national security leaders; a learning organization founded on knowledge management; the center of excellence and innovation for professional military education in joint, multinational, and interagency operations.  National Defense University has five colleges (National War College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, ICollege, Joint Forces Staff College and College of International Security Affairs), three regional centers, three research centers, two institutes, seven special programs and a world-class library.  NDU is fully accredited to award a Masters Degree from the Middle States Association and is considered the nation's premier Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) University.

  • Establish, implement, maintain and administer the National Defense University (NDU) Information Assurance program for the NDU Campus.
  • Serves as Information Assurance Manager (IAM) with responsibility of the Information Technology Security for the National Defense University.
  • Provides information assurance, computer network defense guidance, network security plans, policies, technical/administrative procedures, accreditation documents, and other associated documentation required to manage a successful information assurance program.
  • Provides guidance on the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) activities with the Designated Approving Authority (DAA), Certification Authority, network operations and protocols, sufficient to develop, implement, and coordinate activities designed to increase understanding of issues involved in computer security incidents.

  • Ensure all elements of the NDU Information Assurance program are developed, implemented and maintained according to the DoD IA Certification and Accreditation process.

Basic requirement:  Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating:

In addition to the basic requirement listed above, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. You must demonstrated experience implementing and coordinating activities designed to carry out availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.


Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level. 

Background or Security Investigation:  This is a special sensitive position which requires a background investigation.   The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security determination to occupy a special sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.

 

Travel is seldom required.
