Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation.
Experience and Education requirements for a GS-11 level;
In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level and/or directly related education with a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

Basis of Rating: Category rating will be used in the ranking and selection process for this position. The quality categories are Best Qualified, Well Qualified, and Qualified. 1. Skill and proficiency in species distribution modeling, coupled Land-Ocean-Atmosphere General Circulation Models and regional downscaling of those related projections, statistical model selection and model diagnostic techniques, methods for handling large data volume, and statistical inference related to climate model uncertainty as it propagates through impact and ecological response analysis.
2. Skill and ability to conduct statistical support and research activities of the NC CSC by developing custom statistical tools for integrating climate information with ecological response models and providing information to resource managers.
3. Skill in providing advice, consultation, and coordination on the statistical analysis and interpretation of data resulting within the context of a large, regional effort with multiple collaborators coming from academia, government labs, state agencies and non-government agencies.
4. Demonstrate proven proficiency in computer operating systems, with very strong R programming skills; and experience and proficiency with LaTeX, Fortran, Java, C, WinBUGS, Matlab, SAS, MySQL, Python and VisTrails; with a particular emphasis on species distribution and simulation modeling and software and programs to develop, design, and conduct statistical protocols necessary to analyze spatial and temporal data.
5. Skill in written and verbal communication of research results, including articles in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
