Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in an appropriate field of anthropology.
Possess a combination of education and experiencecourses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Possess four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for the GS-14:
Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as: designing, implementing, and evaluating anthropological research to learn about contemporary American groups commonly associated with protected areas; research that demonstrates experience with cultural variability across American society; development of an anthropological perspective detailing the impact of laws and existing regulations guiding federal agencies, and resulting in the identification of policy issues and actual or potential problems in protected areas and or neighboring communities.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for the GS-15:
Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service that demonstrates skill designing, implementing, and evaluating anthropological research to learn about contemporary American groups commonly associated with protected areas; skill in interpreting laws, regulations, and procedures to recommend changes and evaluate the trends and quality of contemporary anthropological research, and promoting and articulating the public benefits of anthropology. This cultural anthropological research must demonstrate experience with, and knowledge of, cultural variability across American society, the impacts of laws and existing regulations guiding federal agencies, and resulting in the identification of policy issues and actual or potential problems in protected areas and or neighboring communities for which an anthropological perspective can aid in resolving.

The Assessment Questionnaire is designed to measure your ability in the following competencies needed to successfully perform on the job:
KSA-1. Knowledge of applied anthropology and diverse anthropological methods and theories.
KSA-2. Knowledge of laws and regulations related to the practice and use of anthropological techniques and data, and familiarity with the fields of historic preservation and cultural conservation in addition to anthropology.
KSA-3. Skill in developing public anthropological policies and administrative procedures, and in implementing such policies and procedures through effective coordination in government and with the professional historic preservation and protected areas management community.
KSA-4. Skill in communicating technical and non-technical materials to a variety of audiences in multiple formats.
KSA-5. Ability to supervise staff and manage a program.
Basis for rating:
Applicants who meet the qualification requirements specified above for this position will be evaluated, and a score assigned, based upon the responses provided on the job specific questionnaire that is required as part of the application process for this position.
Applicants who meet the qualification requirements based on responses provided in the Applicant Assessment Questionnaire will be placed in one of three categories: Best-Qualified, Well-Qualified or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants referred to the selecting official that are eligible for Veterans Preference will receive selection priority over Non-Veterans.
