Salisbury is a small, historic city located in the heart of the Piedmont area of North Carolina with a moderate climate which enjoys four distinct seasons. The Division of Infectious Diseases at the VA Medical Center, Salisbury NC is seeking a physician with training, interest and expertise in general infectious diseases to join a multidisciplinary Infectious Disease program.  The position is a 5/8 clinician-educator track with 40% protected time for educational activities and will require a 3/8 appointment at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.  The Infectious Disease program at the Salisbury VAMC provides complex inpatient and outpatient services with dedicated support staff and operational space. 


Responsibilities will include supervision of Infectious Disease fellows from Wake Forest University and management of patients with HIV, chronic hepatitis C and general infectious disease conditions.  In addition, the Infectious Disease specialist attending on the teaching service provides coverage for inpatient service.  Residents and medical students regularly rotate on the Infectious Disease program. The Infectious Disease program in highly focused on the outcomes and also strongly encourages research activity.  Candidates will have an academic appointment with Wake Forest University commensurate with the level of experience and can attend ID CME-credited educational activities through videoconferencing.  Infectious Disease Board certification is preferred.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English (for direct patient care).

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
