This position is a Term Appointment, not to exceed 2 years, but could be extended up to a 4-year limit. 

This position is located in the Multifamily Hub and serves as the Hub's Senior Underwriter with responsibility for reviewing and analyzing applications for construction and/or permanent financing for multifamily housing projects.

  • Serves as team leader on multifamily housing projects and negotiates agency functions including underwriting, planning, design review, cost engineering, appraisal, credit evaluation and approval, loan closing, construction, and sponsor customer needs.
  • Provides advice and assistance to lenders and other professionals to ensure compliance with HUD and Low Income Housing Tax Credit requirements, and other Mixed Income Housing transactions.

  • Prepares project analysis, including risks, for the Hub Director and the Hub's Loan Committee.
  • Analyzes and oversees various aspects of Lender applications such as: appraisal, market study, mortgage credit, repairs, scope of work, and costs.
  • Conducts meetings with prospective FHA lenders and owners to discuss FHA insurance underwriting considerations.

GS-13: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience (equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-12 level in the Federal service) providing interpretation and guidance of housing procedures, laws, and regulations related to multifamily housing development, including loan origination, underwriting, or a related area; overseeing and/or completing the underwriting functions of a complex housing project; developing policies and procedures relating to underwriting or loan origination; and analyzing and resolving housing project issues relating to underwriting or loan origination.

Higher education or degrees cannot be substituted for the specialized experience required at this grade level.

    Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, HUD requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy.
