The United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General's (USPS OIG) mission is to provide reports to Postal Service Executives, the Board of Governors, and Congress to help the Postal Service maximize revenues (over $65 billion a year), minimize costs, and prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement.


The USPS OIG is seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill our Auditor/Audit Evaluator position in the OIG functional area of Supply Management located in Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, or Denver, CO.  The Supply Management Directorate conducts performance and/or contract and financial related audits relative to Postal Service Supply Management activities.  The candidate will conduct performance and/or contract and financial related audits relative to Postal Service Supply Management activities.  The successful candidate must be highly motivated and demonstrate experience in planning, conducting, and reporting audits.



Candidates will be evaluated on the skills that they possess that are directly related to the duties of the position and/or the experience, education and training that indicate the applicant's ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system, which is equivalent to the Federal GS scale. Grade and salary determinations will be made based upon a candidate's education and professional experience.


This position is being advertised at the Journey Band level, equivalent to a GS-09 through GS-13.  The salary range for this position is $49,581 - $116,562. The salary figures include locality pay.  Career ladder to GS-13 equivalent at management's discretion.  The salary range, including locality pay, for this position is as follows:


Salary Range: $49,581 - $111,148 Per Annum – Atlanta, GA 

Salary Range: $50,923 - $114,158 Per Annum – Denver, CO

Salary Range: $51,995 - $116,562 Per Annum - Chicago, IL  


Relocation expenses will not be paid.  


May be required to successfully complete a 12-month probationary period

  • Performs the full range of audit functions, including continuing responsibility for a specific component of a project
  • Performs assignments requiring the application of fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines in the area of auditing or audit evaluation

  • Select and apply analytical methods appropriate to the situation from a number of alternatives to develop conclusions and recommendations 
  • Provides advice and recommendations to identify weaknesses and recommend corrective actions to higher-graded staff for incorporation into reports to agency headquarters and other external audit groups

You must meet ALL of the minimum qualifications listed below. 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university


  • At least 4 years of specialized audit experience, to include auditing of contracts, major acquisitions, and supply chain management programs. Postal Service specialized experience in contracts, major acquisitions, and supply chain management programs can be substituted for one or more years of audit experience.




  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Advanced Degree
  • Professional certification(s), i.e.: CPA, CIA, CGFM, CISA, CFE etc.

  • Knowledge of auditing standards, generally accepted accounting and auditing principles; auditing concepts, methodologies, procedures, analytical techniques, and internal control reviews
