As a Health Specialist, you will:
- Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.
- Participate in the development of Program Announcements, Requests for Applications, and Requests for Proposal.
- Coordinate with investigators, institutions, organizations, and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities.
- Monitor awards of public health contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements with full responsibility for carrying out all required monitoring and management duties.

Degree: Major study in an academic field related to health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement:
In order to qualify at the GS-11 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting health research; writing research grant applications; providing assistance to prospective grantees; assisting in the preparation of comprehensive reports of study results; assisting staff with the preparation of funding plans and gathering necessary support documentation from applicants or grantees; coordinating the compilation and preparation of periodic reports
OR have completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or, have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field
OR have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
In order to qualify at the GS-12 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting health research; managing and evaluating grant applications; monitoring public health contracts, grants or cooperative agreements; preparing comprehensive reports of study results; assessing the adequacy and quality of data from studies; preparing funding plans and evaluating progress reports for funded projects; assisting in the initial scientific and administrative review of program project grant and training grant applications.
