This is a temporary summer intern program appointment that begins at the end of the Spring term and concludes on or before 9/30/2012. Starting dates are negotiated with hiring officials and appointments usually end around Labor Day. It does not confer all of the benefits usually associated with the competitive service such as tenure, transfer privileges, and health and life insurance benefits. However, the selectee will be entitled to sick leave and vacation time.

This summer intern position is located in the Dairy Programs Order Formulation and Enforcement Division located in Washington, DC. The Dairy Programs assists the dairy industry by providing stability and orderliness in the dairy marketplace, while at the same time assuring the availability of an adequate supply of high-quality milk and dairy products for U.S. consumption. This is a position responsible for providing support in computer processing activities and information technology needs. Work assignments will be progressively more complex to provide experience and knowledge, under the mentorship of higher level staff.

    The duties may include, but are not limited to:

     

    Under the guidance of selected Agency specialists, studies and becomes familiar with the programs and operations of Agricultural Marketing Service and the Dairy Programs. Receives on-the-job training in selected areas by working closely with Specialists on tasks in their areas and by assisting in data gathering or preliminary research connected with projects. Intern is responsible for completing the assignments by the end of the Summer Intern Program. The incumbent will provide assistance to higher level administrative and professional staff by performing administrative work as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    GS-03: Successful completion of college coursework equivalent to one full year.

    EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-03 GRADE LEVEL 6 months of general experience which is progressively responsible clerical, office, administrative, or other that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

    COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-3 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.     Desired Major/Course Work College students or high school graduates accepted by an accredited college or university who are returning to classes in the fall of 2012.
