The Sioux Falls VAHCS is currently recruiting for a full time, permanent, Supervisory Prosthetics Representative.  This position will be located in the Prosthetics Service.  Tour of duty is typically Administrative Hours, Monday-Friday.  As a Supervisory Prosthetics Representative you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Administer, supervise, and perform work concerned with rendering prosthetic and sensory aids services to disabled patients.
  • Plan, develop, and direct a Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Program at the local level.
  • Serve as an advisor to clinicians with regard to selection, prescription and acquisition of prosthetic devices involving furnishing information concerning such matters as new developments in the field of prosthetics and sources of supply for such devices.
  • Interpret Prescriptions of clinicians in order to make certain that proper prosthetic devices are selected for or by, the patients.
  • Authorize the purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic devices.
  • Maintain continuous liaison with manufacturers and dealers of prosthetic supplies, inspecting their facilities and services and participating in the award of prosthetic appliance contracts.
  • Participate in investigative research project studies by selecting patients as pilot wearers of newly developed prosthetic items, evaluating the usefulness of such items and compiling of data and giving technical and administrative advice and assistance on prosthetic problems to other facilities.
  • Give technical and administrative advice and assistance on prosthetic problems to other facilities.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • English language proficiency required
  • Experience/Education

Three years of experience that demonstrates: knowledge of accounting methods; ability to analyze, comprehend, and apply decisions; basic knowledge of inventory management procedures; ability to use computer software packages for word processing, spreadsheet development, and database management; ability to compile, research, analyze, comprehend, and apply information or data; and ability to work as a team member in a group setting.

OR

Education equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.

OR

Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying.

GS-9 Grade Requirements:  Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower level. 

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

1.  Ability to maintain and control an inventory system.

2.  Knowledge of methods to identify trends and causation factors sufficient to analyze prepared data and gather information to inform and advise management.

OR

Education equivalent to 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited university or college in the field of business; a medical field, e.g., kinesiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, etc.; public administration; health administration; or those in related courses of study.

GS-11 Grade Requirements:  Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower level, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. 

In addition, the cadidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk(*):

*1.  Ability to manage and supervise.

  2.  Ability to initiate new ideas and approaches and demonstrate resourcefulness.

*3.  Ability to manage resources, e.g., space, equipment, supplies, etc., and personnel at the local level.

*4.  Ability to draft and/or recommend local policies and/or directives.

  5.  Skill in managing a prosthetic program at the local level.

OR

Education equivalent to 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in the field of business; a medical field, e.g., kinesiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, etc.; public administration; health administration; or those in related courses of study.(UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

GS-12 Grade Requirements:  Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower level, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk(*):

  1.  Ability to understand the unique characteristics of sites for which responsible.

*2.  Skill in participating in VISN/facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees.

*3.  Ability to draft and/or recommend VISN/facility policies and/or directives.
