JOB SUMMARY:

The NNSA is looking for you as the next generation of our federal workforce. These positions will be located throughout NNSA Headquarters Administration. The objective of the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is to develop competent professionals to ultimately manage programs and projects within the NNSA, including managing national defense weapons related programs at both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities while helping to strengthen national security. The STEP Program provides experiences that will build and strengthen your institutional knowledge as you apply theory to real world problems in actual work situations.

This is a Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) position.  

The salary in this announcement reflects base pay only. The locality percentages for both locations are as follows: Albuquerque, NM, Amarillo, TX, and Las Vegas, NV -14.16%; Washington, DC-24.22%. These locality percentages are added to the base salaries for each location. Employee will be paid the resulting adjusted salary annually.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be able to obtain/maintain a BAO, L, or Q Security Clearance
-Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and possess education and experience appropriate to the type of work for which applying.                                                            -Must have overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
-Must be a student and enrolled in an accredited school taking at least a half time high school, academic/vocational or technical course load.

YOU MUST STATE YOUR TYPING SPEED IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ANY POSITION IN WHICH TYPING AND/OR COMPUTER KEYBOARDING IS A JOB REQUIREMENT.

    The incumbent will serve as Office Support Assistant (OA) performing the following functions:
    - Preparing excel worksheets, power point presentations, charts, graphs, statistical reports, etc.;
    - Prepares in draft form routine correspondence, emails and maintains calendars utilizing standard office automation software;
    - Plan and schedule meetings, events, general office activities;
    - Collect and Distribute routine correspondence, mail, office supplies, etc;
    - Maintain files and folders electronically and in hard copy form;
    - Receives telephone calls and visitors;
    - Assist higher level analyst/specialist on more technical assignments or projects as required.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, you must:

    1. Be a student, enrolled not less than half-time (this generally equates to 6 credit hours per semester but may vary among institutions) in a high school, trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university or other accredited educational institution. You must continue to be an enrolled student to be employed through this program. Once you graduate, you are no longer eligible unless you provide documentation that's supports that you will continue to take classes not less than half-time at an accredited college or university.

    2. Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.

    3. Be a U.S. citizen.

    4. Must be 16 years of age.

    To qualify at the NU-02 you need one year of specialized experience at the NU-01/GS-04 level. Examples of specialized experience include: using a personal computer and multiple functions of a variety of software types (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics) to prepare a variety of letters, messages, memoranda, reports, statistical material, graphics, school bulletins, parent newsletters, faculty and parent handbooks, and other documents from oral instructions, hand-written rough drafts, or voice recordings; assisting in registration of incoming students; establishing and managing all files; and/or orders and maintains supplies and materials. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION of four years above high school.

    HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

    Applicants who meet the basic eligibility requirements will be further evaluated and rated under Category Rating and Selection Procedures against the KSAs listed in the announcement. Eligible candidates will then be placed for selection consideration into one of three categories as described below:

    1. Qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualifications for the position.
    2. Well Qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualifications for the position and demonstrates proficient experience based on responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities described below.
    3. Highly Qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualifications for the position and excels on responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities described below.

    Veteran's preference points are not added in category rating procedures. However, the names of preference eligibles will be placed ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. Preference eligibles who meet the minimum qualification requirements and who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent will be listed in the highest quality category.

    The Occupational Questions are used to evaluate your relevant educational and work experience. The questions are related to competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities such as:

    Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to inform supervisors of complex situations or findings.

    Knowledge of the basic functions, administrative requirements and procedures involved in the organization to which assigned. Basic

    Skill operating automated equipment requiring training and/or experience such as computer keyboards, fax machines, scanners, typewriters, duplicating equipment and software packages such as Word, DBase, PowerPoint, etc.

    Knowledge of general office automation software, practices and procedures to read, interpret, and correctly respond to information in the form in which it is transmitted through the computer system.

    Ability to file, organize and perform basic office management functions.
