Licensed Practical Nurse - Specialty Clinic
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for observing, recording, and reporting changes in the patients condition, as well as assisting in the development and revision of the Veteran-driven care plan. The LPN requires a general review of their work by an RN for appropriateness and conformity with license, policies, and procedures. The LPN demonstrates active collaboration and communication with the Core Team (Veteran, Specialty provider, Registered Nurse, and Clerk) and Expanded Team (family/caregiver and other services providing care to the Veteran).
· Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective action in emergencies.
· Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in communicating with the patient, families, co-workers and interdisciplinary team members.
· Administers vaccinations and other injections following standard medical center policies.
· Accurately documents patient information on flow sheets and charts in electronic format.
· Participates in the interdisciplinary team care planning and delivery of care process.
· Appreciates diversity, keeping an open mind for diversity, cultural competency, and continuous learning.
Work Schedule: Monday Friday, 7am 3:30pm
Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The candidate may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The candidate may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The candidate will be working closely with others and may have protracted or irregular hours of work.
Basic Requirements:
· U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
· Education: Must be a Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the NLN at the time program was completed or completion of education or training in the military service which is accepted by the Licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements
· Licensure: Possess a full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia
· English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English (LVN/LPNs appointed to direct care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)
Preferred Experience, Skills, or Knowledge:
· 1 year of ambulatory care clinic or medical-surgical experience as a LPN.
· Knowledge of PACT standards and concepts.
· Demonstrated dependability for duty and flexibility in work assignment and hours in previous assignments.
· BLS certification required.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Grade Determinations:
GS-6: Must have completed at least (1) one year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent and fully meets all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN.
