Duty Title: Radiochemistry Branch Chief/Scientist
MAJOR DUTIES:
· Performs work requiring expert professional knowledge of radiochemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry, separation and purification techniques, analytical chemical techniques, tracer and carrier techniques, instrumental chemical techniques, chemical yielding techniques, chromatography, neutron activation analysis techniques and all other techniques that may be used in radiochemistry laboratories.
· Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Radiochemistry Laboratory and schedules work in a manner that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution.
· Responsible for determining the radiochemistry procedures and sample handling techniques that will be used for the overall training of the personnel in the nuclear radiochemistry laboratory.
· Makes decisions on the appropriate radiochemistry procedures to use to purify nuclear samples across a wide spectrum of concentrations from near background levels up to atmospheric nuclear weapons test levels.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position implemented under Section 504, Title V of Public Law 99-569, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987, as codified in Sec 1601, Chap 83 of Title 10 United States Code which sets forth Air Force policies and procedures for DCIPS. This position is in the Excepted Service.
DoD Components with DCIPS positions apply Veterans' Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 USC, in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Position is designate critical-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed
2. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
3. Position may require temporary duty travel (TDY) utilizing military and/or commercial transportation.
4. Employee is required to undergo random CI polygraph examinations in accordance with security regulations involving material handled.
5. A Master's or PhD in chemistry with emphasis in nuclear radiochemistry is very strongly desired. A minimum of 5 years of direct experience as a nuclear measurement expert is highly desired along with 15 years of experience working in a radiochemistry laboratory.
6. Shift work may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of radiochemistry principles, techniques, processes, procedures and equipment.
2. Knowledge of alpha, beta and gamma measurement equipment/systems, radioactive decay schemes and radiation detection systems.
3. Skill in rapidly applying knowledge in a variety of situations to a variety of nuclear radiochemistry techniques in order to meet critical deadlines.
