There are three positions for this announcement. These positions works with the Division of Resource Education in Great Smoky Mountains National Park with a duty station either in the North District, Gatlinburg TN, South District, Cherokee NC or at the Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center near Maggie Valley, NC. The primary duty is to deliver curriculum-based educational programs in the Kindergarten through High School Parks as Classrooms programs. The programs will be delivered to a wide variety of audiences ranging from school students to teachers and others in the community. Programs are presented both on and off-site and are relevant to the park's interpretive themes. The incumbent will also create new and revise existing curriculum-based education programs to meet several of the goals in the NPS 's Call to Action. The employee will assist with incorporating new technologies into education programs both in the field and possibly through distance learning techniques. The focus of these positions is to provide teachers with opportunities to engage their students in the process of science by helping to collect data on our citizen science field trips. The incumbent will need to have a strong background in the scientific method as well as teaching skills. The incumbent will interact with teachers, parent chaperones, park staff in a variety of divisions, and the general public. They may be responsible for program logistics including scheduling, checking in with teachers, managing program supplies, training interns and VIP's and managing evaluations. Programs are held both indoors and outdoors in a variety of different habitats and conditions. The positions requires knowledge of educational and interpretive techniques, current and emerging technology, scientific methods and processes and park natural and cultural history, coupled with the ability to relate to and meet the needs of visitors of all ages.
