General Information
This position is year-round. During the school year part-time hours will apply; however, during the summer, full-time hours will apply and can apply during school breaks. The work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the student's schedule.
In order to be eligible to receive consideration for this position, you must be able to: (1) report to the duty station location listed in this vacancy announcement, if selected; and (2) be available to work the schedule identified.
Salary:
GS-03 $12.53 per hour (Step 01) to $16.29 per hour (Step 10);
GS-04 $14.07 per hour (Step 01) to $18.28 per hour (Step 10);
NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

The USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center is seeking one or more undergraduate level student(s) working towards a degree in Hydrology, Physical Science, Engineering, or Environmental Science (or equivalent program) to gain practical experience in quantifying streamflow, water-quality, data compilation, analysis, review, and publication.
As a Student Trainee (Hydrology) you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used by Hydrologic Technicians and Hydrologists.
Duties include:
--Gathering hydrologic data in relation to quantity, quality, availability, and movement and distribution of water.
--Collecting and processing data used in stream discharge.
--Calculating sediment, chemical, and biological concentrations and physical characteristics.
--Operating a government vehicle as an incidental driver.
Work Environment: Work is primarily outdoors and involves moderate or sometimes extreme exposure to the discomforts of rain, cold/hot weather, and rapidly running or icy streams and rivers. Work is physically demanding and includes walking, bending, climbing, and lifting of equipment up to 100 pounds, sometimes during adverse weather conditions.
