This position is located in the Quality Assurance Office, Regional Metrology and Calibration Division, Calibration Laboratory Branch, Code 137, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia. The incumbent of this position is responsible for providing calibration and repair services of electrical/electronic, electro-mechanical, physical, and dimensional test instruments, equipment, and tools used by and for the Navy.

REQUIREMENTS
Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
The selectee must be certified or immediately certifiable as competent to calibrate precision physical and dimensional, mechanical, and electromechanical testing and measuring systems, equipment, and devices in accordance with strict calibration procedures outlined by the shipyard and Navy METCAL programs. This includes completion of Navy Advanced Measurements course or equivalent, a minimum of six months instrumentation work experience in a certified calibration laboratory, recommendation for certification by the supervisor, and certification based on testing and evaluation of work and competency by the shipyard standards laboratory, in accordance with the NNSY Instruction 4120.4G and NAVSEAINST 4734.1B.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.
A pre-employment physical/medical examination is required.
Selectee must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds and over.
The work requires use of fingers, both hands, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders; both legs to walk, climb, stand, crawl, kneel, and bend; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; normal hearing; and vision in both eyes.

The work involves working conditions in excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness, or chilling weather conditions; working in areas with excessive intermittent noise; working in confined areas and on slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit to or from worksites.

Selectee may be required to operate a crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle.
Occasional travel is required up to 5%.

· Troubleshooting, overhauling, maintaining, and repairing complex, integrated instruments, standards, and equipment such as: electromechanical computers, servo amplifiers, and control transformers.
· Utilizing complex shop math formulas in order to calculate angles, center distances, clearances, and fits for surfaces with interrelated dimensions.
· Manufacturing customized parts with complex configurations/assembling prototype devices.
· Interpreting complex multi-view drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, specifications, calibration procedures, etc.
· Utilizing various tools of the instrument trade and a variety of measurement and test equipment.
