These positions perform professional work involving knowledge of the applications of information technology to the assignment area and skill in the use of IT software and hardware systems.
Listed below are some examples of IT Specialist work:
· Assess policy needs and develop policies to govern IT activities.
· Identify and address IT workforce planning and management issues.
· Provide enterprise architecture guidance, support, and coordination to customers and IT project teams.
· Promote awareness of security issues among management and ensuring sound security principles are reflected in organizations visions and goals.
· Ensure the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices to the systems analysis process.

The Information Technology Management series 2210 has eleven specialties. A general description of the relationships among the specialties is presented as follows:
Policy and Planning (PLCYPLN) develop, implement, and ensure compliance with plans, policies, standards, infrastructures, and architectures that establish the framework for the management of all IT programs.
Enterprise Architecture (ENTARCH) analyze, plan, design, document, assess, and manage the IT enterprise structural framework to align IT systems with the mission, goals, and business processes of the organization.
Information Security (INFOSEC) plan, develop, implement, and maintain programs, polices, and procedures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems, networks, and data.
Systems Analysis (SYSANALYSIS) consult with customers to refine functional requirements and translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
Applications Software (APPSW) translate technical specifications into programming specifications; develop, customize, or acquire applications software programs; and test, debug, and maintain software programs.
Operating Systems (OS) install, configure, and maintain the operating systems environment, including systems servers and operating systems software on which applications programs run.
Network Services (NETWORK) test, install, configure, and maintain networks including hardware (servers, hubs, bridges, switches, and routers) and software that permit the sharing and transmission of information.
Data Management (DATAMGT) develop and administer databases used to store and retrieve data and develop standards for the handling of data.
Internet (INET) provide services that permit the publication and transmission of information about agency programs to internal and external audiences using the Internet.
Systems Administration (SYSADMIN) install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware and software to ensure the availability and functionality of systems.
Customer Support (CUSTSPT) provide technical support to customers who need advice, assistance, and training in applying hardware and software systems.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. GS-09 Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one or more years of specialized experience that has provided me with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of an IT Specialist GS-09. Specialized experience is: 1) evaluating system performance data to identify and address inefficiencies; 2) identifying problems, ascertaining root cause and impact, and providing recommendations for resolution. OR a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
GS-11 Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one or more years of specialized experience that has provided me with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of an IT Specialist GS-11. Specialized experience is: 1) evaluating system performance data to identify and address inefficiencies; 2) evaluating system performance data to identify and address inefficiencies; and 3) providing oversight in the integration of information technology systems to ensure compliance with software and business requirements. OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
GS-12 Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one or more years of progressively related specialized experience in the same or similar work at a level of difficulty and responsibility that has equipped you with the necessary knowledge, skills or abilities to perform successfully the duties of an IT Specialist GS-12. Creditable specialized experience includes: 1) evaluating system performance data to identify and address inefficiencies; 2) providing oversight in the integration of information technology systems to ensure compliance with software and business requirements; and 3) providing guidance in the development and implementation of information technology policies and procedures.
GS-13 Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one or more years of progressively related specialized experience in the same or similar work at a level of difficulty and responsibility that has equipped you with the necessary knowledge, skills or abilities to perform successfully the duties of an IT Specialist GS-13. Creditable specialized experience includes: 1) evaluating system performance data to identify and address inefficiencies; 2) providing oversight in the integration of information technology systems to ensure compliance with software and business requirements; 3) providing guidance in the development and implementation of information technology policies and procedures; and 4) developing alternatives for addressing complex issues with information technology system performance.
These
positions are covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act
(DAWIA) and requires additional education, training and experience. This
