General duties:
Performing comprehensive and problem focused history and physical examinations, interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests. Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data. Formulate a differential diagnosis and a working diagnosis. Develop a treatment plan for Vascular conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with the Vascular Surgeon. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate. Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising Vascular Surgeon or other healthcare professionals.
Hospital duties:
Conduct hospital rounds on a daily basis of all inpatients (including intensive care units), write orders, progress notes, perform admission history and physical examinations, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests such as x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, , bone scans, and other radiographic studies as needed or indicated. Perform appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment and therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, discharge planning, and dictate discharge summaries.
Clinic duties:
See new referral patients in the outpatient setting and complete a thorough history and physical examination that is problem-oriented for Vascular conditions. Present patient to the attending Vascular Surgeon(s) and help formulate a treatment plan, order appropriate radiographic studies and perform office procedures such as dressings, wound care including biologic dressings and others as directed by the Vascular Surgeon. Evaluate postoperative patients and routine follow-up visits. Review and triage Vascular Consults. Return phone calls from patients and family members, handle prescription refills, review radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities. Review x-rays, MRIs, CT scans of hospitalized patients and office patients with the attending Vascular Surgeon.
Evaluate, screen, and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources. Manage databases and perform quality assurance.

Physical Requirements:

A pre-placement physical examination is required for all full-time, part-time and intermittent employees identified by VA Directive and Handbook 5019. The pre-placement physical examination shall be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness for candidates for appointment in VA. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies.
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

* Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing
* The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to the site for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
* Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

* Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR an BSN with approximately 1-2 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
* Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years Nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in Nursing meets basic requirements for appointment and Doctoral Degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience.
*Nurse III - Master's degree in Nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of Nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years of Nursing practice/experience.
