·The incumbent is required to perform duties on a rotating shift and will receive on-the job training.
· Police Officers perform a wide variety of complex law enforcement duties generated by the surrounding area of the installation.
· Responding to and/or investigating complaints of minor to complex incidents, patrolling the installation via motorized vehicles , walking, or bicycling.
· Gathering and analyzing facts, taking statements; performing traffic law enforcement; performing law enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.

This is an Emergency-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority.
Required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies.
Must successfully complete a designated USMC Police Officers Course of Instruction and meet all certification requirements, to include weapons certifications, CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (Automated External Defibrillators), DOD, and Joint Training Regulations. Training may be conducted at a Regional Training Academy for initial training.
As first responders to chemical/biological attacks, must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots, and gloves.
If incumbent is conducting law enforcement operations in navigable waters, incumbent must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or a similar course.
Incumbent will attend formal, on-the-job and in-service training to include: regularly scheduled weapons qualifications training, periodic instruction and/or drill in law enforcement procedures, and regularly scheduled physical agility training and testing.
Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards.
Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton, and obtain other certifications required to accomplish the duties of a law enforcement officer.
This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

GS-05: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate a basic knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods to assist in performing routine, recurring kinds of fixed post assignments (i.e., traffic laws, regulations governing access to buildings, procedures for crimes in progress and governing rights of individuals.

Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

GS-06: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate a basic knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Specialized experience for this position is: responding to calls/alarms, investigating violations or reports of probably causes; performing patrols and emergency response duties; arresting violators; providing crime prevention information; assisting accident victims by providing first aid; and writing detailed reports of incident.
GS-07: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate a basic knowledge of laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Specialized experience for this position is: responding to emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service during the watch; enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations for violations such as speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence; subduing and disarming those who are doing violence to other persons; assisting the injured and administering first aid; gathering and analyzing facts; seizing and protecting evidence; interviewing witnesses and taking statements; advising violators of rights; making diagrams; and determining whether facts warrant apprehension/detention or lesser action.
NOTE FOR THE GS-05 AND BELOW: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience.
NOTE FOR THE GS-06 AND ABOVE: No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

This position is subject to shift work. These duties are performed on rotating shifts, 24 hours a day, and 365 days of the year.
