The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking experienced Telephone Advice Line nurses to work in our VISN 22 Telephone Linked Care Service. The program operates 24-hours a day, 7-days a week to provide veterans with professional nurse telephone triage, consultation and education. This RN links patients and caregivers with appropriate services, provides health information, and fully utilizes the nursing process utilizing online approved algorithms. He/she will ensure that Veteran-centered health care is provided and delivered in a quality, timely, accessible and respectful manner, consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of the Veterans Health Administration. He/she reports to the assigned Program Nurse Manager. This position is not appropriate for novice nurses.

Staff Nurse's duties include but are not limited to:
1. Utilizes health information and telecommunications to promote therapeutic relationships and shared decision-making

Work Schedule: The employee in these positions will rotate between day, evening and night shifts as needed to ensure staffing coverage, also rotate to work weekends and holidays as assigned. He/she will work 5 days a week and the 8 hour shifts are: 7am-3:30pm, 11am-7:30pm, 4:00pm to 12:00 midnight and 12:00 midnight to 8:00am. Variable shifts. Employee works on the weekend and holidays and is entitled to receive night differential, weekend premium and holiday pay.

Physical Requirements:
The population of male and female Veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. VAGLAHS is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients. There is a large outpatient mental health/psychiatric population at GLA. Patients with mental health co-morbidities may visit the Emergency Department and require admissions for medical co-morbidities or admission to Mental Health units The incumbent may be exposed to patients who are aggressive or combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or mental health/psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, individual using critical thinking and capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Position requires moderate walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items, or driving an automobile, etc. The functional requirements: heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); straight pulling (up to 1 hour); pushing (1 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 3 hours); standing (up to 3 hours); repeated bending (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; hearing (aid permitted). Also works closely with others.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
· U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
· Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
· The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
· Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Preferred Experience/Education:
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association - Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, American Red Cross - CPR-AED for the Professional Rescuer, or Military Training Network (MTN) Provider Certificate/Card.
· BSN preferred
· At least 3 years of successful Registered Nursing practice; Critical Care experience preferred
· Previous Telephone Advice Line RN experience preferred
