The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) will work in cooperative collaboration with team members, health professionals; volunteers, others in VA facilities, and community agencies to help Veterans recognize and resolve their needs. The counseling and therapeutic services provided by the Veteran Center range from routine to complex and include suicide prevention, crisis intervention, short and long-term treatment with clients experiencing readjustment problems. Clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, marriage and family counseling, and mental health techniques including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse, and readjustment counseling. The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing Veterans with community outreach, counseling, therapy, treatment, direct services, and referral to VA services and community resources. Some of the duties required are clinical practice with Veteran clients which includes:

Basic Requirement:

Experience:
GS-11 is the full performance level grade for GS-101 Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor series and requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post master's degree experience in mental health counseling experience in addition to the education requirements. Also, Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor must demonstrate Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA). This vacancy announcement is for recruitment at the GS-11 full performance level only.

1) Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendation for treatment planning and implementation.
2) Advanced knowledge and mastery of the fundamentals of the counseling process.
3) Ability to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and students on the counseling process within various specialty areas.
4) Ability to provide complex crisis intervention and stabilization to patients utilizing advanced counseling skills.
5) Ability to establish goals/treatment through a collaborative process with patient using advanced counseling skills.
6) Ability to use wide variety of individual, group, or familial counseling interventions and demonstrate sensitivity to diversity and multicultural counseling skills.
7) Ability to utilize the current DSM in making diagnoses and formulation of treatment goals and application of appropriate clinical intervention using professional counseling practices.
8) Ability to develop and deliver psycho-education groups that includes life skills, family support, and community integration.

Preferred Experience:
Licensed to practice Marriage and Family Therapy independently.
