Under the guidance and direct supervision of Yellowstone's Wildlife Biologist, incumbents will monitor, protect, and document bird populations within Yellowstone National Park to include songbirds, raptors and waterbirds. Conduct point count surveys for passerine birds in sagebrush, willow, cottonwood, aspen, or conifer habitats and nest searches in various habitat types. Observe and record bird behavior and activity. Handle large water birds as part of a restoration effort. Work Schedule: The work schedule will be full-time 40 hours per week. Depending on operational needs and funding, employee/s may be placed on a part-time work schedule (8 to 32 hours per week) or on an intermittent work schedule. An intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.
Physical Demands: The work requires physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, hiking, or climbing over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, lifting or reaching to observe, collect, or record field data. Heavy items (e.g., equipment and packs up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. May be required to hike several miles in a day.

Work schedules and project assignments may change depending on staffing needs, weather conditions, and funding. Sedentary office work involving data entry, compilation, and writing may be required.
The work performed in the field involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. The work may include conducting daytime, nighttime, or early morning surveys according to protocols.
