The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for one (1) Physical Therapist (PT) for the Rehabilitation & Transitional Care Line (RTCL) in the capacity of a Staff Physical Therapist. The incumbent performs the full range of duties of a physical therapist and is responsible for evaluating referred patients and establishing and executing treatment plans that include a full range of treatment procedures and modalities. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Evaluate each patient to determine the best method to accomplish patient specific rehabilitation treatment goals.
- Develop an individual treatment program for each patient.
- Document initial findings, treatment goals, equipment recommendations, follow-up progress notes and discharge summaries in the computerized patient record.
- Develop patient home programs as needed prior to discharge and provides instruction to family or caregivers as necessary to continue with the appropriate delivery of home care.
- Perform initial set-up, implementation and administration of physical therapy services.
- Ensure clinic preparedness in an effort to meet CARF, JCAHO and OIG survey expectations and compliance standards
- Conduct patient triaging for outpatient clinic providing guidance to the office personnel including maintenance of patient priority slots and clinically appropriate scheduling practices.
- As a physical therapist, supervises, mentors and counsels designated physical therapy assistant and or physical therapist trainee as assigned to facilitate effective and safe treatment interventions
- Educate providers in physical therapy services available to our Veteran population
- Serve as a resource person to the community physical therapy providers, and within the professional association in matters related to physical therapy and health and wellness.
Work Schedule: Monday Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm, and five to six weekend days per year, on average.
Physical Requirements: Physical Therapist Functional Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (2 hours); Standing (4 hours); Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Hearing (aid permitted); Emotional and Mental Stability.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.
Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Degree: Graduate from a degree program in physical therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs. Verification of accredited programs may be obtained from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Web site, or at their office address: American Physical Therapy Association, 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-1488.
English Language Proficiency: Physical Therapist must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-11: Education, Experience, and Licensure. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade; or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or doctoral degree in physical therapy or a directly related field.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
