This position is based in Saginaw, MI at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center.
However, this position travels at least 50-75% of the time. This position is the float Physical Therapy position that covers annual leave, sick leave, temporary vacancies and other absences, such as Family Medical Leave Act. The position frequently travels between Saginaw and the Community Based Outpatient Center's (CBOC's) providing Physical therapy services for patients as required. As a result, this position must also frequently stay overnight in CBOC areas. A valid and current driver's license is required due to the extensive travel requirements. This position must also obtain and maintain a government credit card in good standing because of the frequent travel requirements.
· Evaluates patients, plans, establishes and executes a full range of treatment procedures designed to restore homeostasis to the individual patient or to enhance the adaptive capacities through the use of physical measures, activities, prostheses or assistive devices. Provides home programs as appropriate and involves significant others in this process. Physical Therapist may also conduct teaching activities for Physical Therapy (PT) students.
· Receives the patient's referral from an appropriate physician or primary care provider and schedules the patient for evaluation and treatment in a timely fashion; chart review will allow an opportunity to assess appropriateness of the referral and possible contraindications for treatment. This position maybe responsible for sole PT participation in the Patient Multidisciplinary Treatment Team and any assigned liaison with a primary treatment team.
· Evaluation includes a medical history and performing and interpreting of the appropriate tests and measurements of the patient's condition for use in preparing the treatment plan, modifying treatment, evaluating results of treatment. Tests are frequently complex and may need to be adapted because of the patient's multiple physical disabilities or present medical condition.
· Independently utilizes evaluation data to implement comprehensive patient treatment plans, involving patient in goal-setting process if feasible.
· Independently modifies treatment plan and treat patients according to evaluative findings on an on-going basis to better meet short and long term goals.
· Demonstrates a full professional understanding of the theories of treatment of physical therapy and their proper application through the use of therapeutic physical rehabilitation and reconditioning procedures.
Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday through Friday)
Functional Statement Title: Physical Therapist Community Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)
Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted.
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects. This could include moving objects such as pieces of equipment and assistance in moving clients.

Basic Requirements:
Education. Graduate from a degree program in Physical Therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level Physical Therapy programs. Verification of accredited programs may be found at the American Physical Therapy Association website.
· Licensure. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice Physical Therapy in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
· Non-licensed Physical Therapists, who otherwise meet the basic requirements in this standard, may be given temporary appointment as a graduate Physical Therapist not-to-exceed two years under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2). Non-licensed individuals appointed as a temporary graduate Physical Therapist may not be appointed as a Physical Therapist without being fully licensed.
· A Physical Therapist who fails to maintain the required licensure must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment. At the discretion of the appointment official, an employee may be reassigned to another occupation for which he/she qualifies if a placement opportunity exists.
· A Physical Therapist who has, or has ever had, his/her Physical Therapist license revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16 of the Physical Therapist Qualification Standard.
· English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-09) or higher. Examples of experience for this position include: providing assessment and treatment intervention, assigned to all program areas which are covered by Rehabilitation Services, and provide professional independent physical therapy services in the assigned area.
OR
Education. 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or doctoral degree in Physical Therapy or a directly related field.
