As a BLM Colorado Telecommunications Specialist, you will:
* Develop detailed plans based on long-term plans and objectives, results of special surveys and studies, and user requirements, for telecommunications and systems, equipment, and services;
* Conduct studies and/or reviews the results of studies of radio and data communication usage;
* Resolve complex telecommunications such as, linking incompatible equipment and systems and monitor and make configuration changes to statewide voice and data communications systems;
* Prepare specifications and requirements for proposals and contracts, review bids for vendor availability, and monitor vendor performance to ensure equipment and service requirements are met; and,
* Coordinate and provide support for voice and data equipment installation.
This position has a positive education OR experience requirement which requires that you have either an Undergraduate or Graduate degree with a major study in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. -OR-
Specialized Experience: Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.
You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.
You must be able to obtain certification to climb towers as outlined in BLM Manual 1292 and BLM Handbook 1291-1.
Please Note: This position requires occasional, seasonal on-call duty.
May require completion of a 1 year probationary period.

* Knowledge of IP networks concepts and principles involving network systems testing, installation, operations and maintenance concepts sufficient to manage and serve as a RoIP systems administrator;
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on technical and nontechnical matters as they relate to telecommunications; and,
* Knowledge of policies and practices and of technical data sources to evaluate alternative approaches for satisfying communications requirements.
