This position is based in Kerrville TX, and is a position which combines duties as a routine Diagnostic Radiology Technologist with a specialization emphasis on Mammography. In this position, the incumbent will primarily perform exams on the Mobile Mammography Unit and travel to rural areas of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS), which includes Audie Murphy VA, San Antonio and the Kerrville (KD) Texas, Outpatient Clinics (OPC's) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's). Incumbent is the designated radiologic technologist responsible for the performance and coordination of all diagnostic radiologic exams to include DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorbiometry) bone density as well as high quality mammographic examinations of the well and diseased breast for the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS). The incumbent will operate/drive the mobile mammography van in this position. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies to bring about proper diagnosis and treatment. Incumbent's primary duty location is the Kerrville Texas Division of the South Texas Health Care System, San Antonio TX.
WORK HOURS: MONDAY- FRIDAY 8:00 am 4:30 pm AND may be required to work various tours of duty (to include compressed work schedules) as needed to provide required coverage within STVHCS.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-9 LEVEL: Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled, and fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, you must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk(*):
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
*(1) Ability to balance the needs of the patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures;
(2) Skill to demonstrate appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers;
*(3) Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure;
(4) Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography;
(5) Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous skills, and universal precautions; and
(6) Knowledgeable in pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE in the following two area's of this occupation are described below:
Experience performing non-invasive tests to measure bone mineral content to diagnose a systemic skeletal disease (osteoporosis) characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural distortion of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture.
Experience, knowledge and ability to perform complex imaging of the breast. Applicants which have this experience should have experience to employ specialized mammographic image techniques such as magnification views and implant views of the breast.
