As such, a proven track record in teaching, assessing, and designing undergraduate level courses or higher is preferred. These teaching requirements will comprise 50% of the workload (a minimum of 2 sections of 15-17 cadets per semester).
As the Chair for Honor and Character Assessment, you will serve within the Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic (SCPME) in support of the United States Corps of Cadets (USCC). The Chair will assess programs within the SCPME as described in the Character Program ("Gold Book") with specific attention given to the Cadet Honor System and will assist in assessment of West Point's Character Development Strategy and West Point Leader Development System (WPLDS). At times, the Chair will establish relationships with leaders in the military, academic, and physical programs to help assess character development activities in those programs. The Chair is expected to perform applied research about character development and assessment that results in published documents that benefit the West Point mission and the Army Profession.
The Chair for Honor and Character Assessment will be SCPME's resident expert on assessing character development activities throughout the Character Program with special attention given to the Cadet Honor System, the West Point Leader Development System, and the Character Development Strategy. Through this Chair's efforts, SCPME will improve its ability to serve as the character development nucleus for the Corps of Cadets.
The Chair leads SCPME research efforts in the field of character assessment by coordinating research with academic departments, the Office of Institutional Research (OIR), and the Leader Development Branch. The Chair is expected to stay abreast of current research efforts in character assessment and to publish research on character development that benefits the West Point mission and the Army Profession. Specifically, the Chair will design research that quantitatively and qualitatively assesses character development outcomes and leads to program improvement. The quantitative aspect of expected research requires proven ability to utilize statistical analysis software such as STATA or SPSS. There will be opportunities for collaboration with several West Point academic departments, other service academies, and other civilian scholars researching this important topic.
