The RN practices within the Surgical Services, and under the umbrella of PCS providing a wide range of outpatient care coordination for patients being treated by the Podiatry service. The RN provides direct care to a designated group of patients with acute and/or chronic Podiatric needs in the ambulatory care setting. This is achieved through assessment, planning, implementation, collaboration and evaluation to meet the needs of patients consistent with VA policies, scope of practice and established standards of medical/surgical care. The RN is responsible for patient contacts, reviewing of medical records, reviewing and triaging of consults for appropriateness of care, triaging incoming phone calls, assuring/assisting with completion of preoperative testing and preparation, pre/postoperative and procedural education, assists in scheduling clinic appointments, wound care and treatments, as well as assisting surgical providers with minor procedures. The RN is responsible for managing alerts in CPRS related to patient care and consults. The RN will assist in team research and updating service related policies and protocols. Participates in program and clinic activities and meeting.
The RN applies evidence-based practice while providing care based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being. The RN's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours and weekends.

VA Montana has a RN Residency/Transition to Practice Program. Per VA Directive 2011-039 participation in this program is required for all nurses who have less than 1 year of registered nurse experience or as recommended by the Associate Director Patient Care Services.
Preferred Experience: Certification in Wound Care preferred. Experience in direct patient care within the past 2 years.
