The incumbent serves as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model of PACT in the Primary Care clinical area. S/he works at a multi-specialty outpatient service facility within the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Manchester New Hampshire. Incumbent will work at the assigned Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) as the primary location.
The CBOC MSA is responsible for performing receptionist duties, customer service, screens and receives and initiates phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider requests in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: ensuring timely communication to patient/staff, scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; utilizing and monitoring the electronic wait list;; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; completion of pre-registrations when applicable, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information. Perform basic eligibility and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage. The MSA is also responsible for preparing simple word documents, memos and communications for clinical staff, reviewing documentation, data entry, reminder phone calls, printing and distribution of EARR Report to providers, data entry for Recall Program; ordering of supplies and mail distribution. The MSA is able to independently manage position responsibilities with little supervision as well as set priorities and deadlines adjusting flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs. The MSA participates in teamlet huddles and service and role specific meetings.

4. Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.
5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.
