This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computed Tomography/Special Procedures) position is in the Imaging Service at the VA Central CA Health Care System (VACCHCS), Fresno, CA. The incumbent will operate independently as an Interventional Radiology/Special Procedures/CT Technologist. You will be responsible for coordination of interventional radiology procedures in order to achieve optimum diagnostic studies. You will rotate variable on-call shifts and will be expected to operate in the three areas during these times. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Work Schedule: Various rotating shifts; on-call required. NOTE: This section provides service 24 hours/7 days a week. The selectee may be required to work rotating shifts that include days, nights, holidays, and weekends. The work schedule may be discussed at the time of interview or selection.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: The following requirements are required at all grade levels for this series:
GRADE DETERMINATION GS-9: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following grade requirements must be met to qualify for this position.
Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at the GS-08 level. Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to: providing radiographic examinations in interventional radiology (IR), CT operating room procedures, and general radiography; adjusting imaging parameters to maximize image quality and to accommodate for the patient's body habitus and pre-existing pathology; obtaining, entering, and transmitting information and image data using PACS and the CD workstation; preparing contrast material used for patient examinations; performing quality control testing and gathering quality improvement data in IR, CT, and general imaging; cleaning and inspecting equipment to insure proper mechanical and electrical operation; reviewing the patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results; monitoring the patient's physiologic changes during the procedure; and adhering to infection control and safety policies.
In addition, candidates must demonstrate the technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*) for the GS-09 level.
*1. Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
2. Skill to demonstrate appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
*3. Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
4. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
5. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.
6. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
