The Mountain Home VA Healthcare System is seeking a well-qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) to support our Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program in the Norton, Virgina area. The OT is a member of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service staff assigned to HBPC. The incumbent will be responsible for providing in-home evaluations, as well as planning and administration/management of rehabilitation services in the home for patients enrolled in HBPC and serviced through the Norton, Virginia Community Based Outpatient Center. The OT will be charged with conducting assessments for appropriate in home equipment and providing appropriate training for patients, families, and care providers. The OT will provide these in-home services to patients with a wide variety of multiple, complex illnesses and/or profound disabilities. This position will require near-daily travel to patients' homes in Norton, VA, and the surrounding area. Major duties will include, but are not limited to:

Physical Requirements:Work includes regular and demanding physical exertion in standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, gripping,and walking. Moderate to heavy lifting is required to assist patients and operate equipment. Sitting is required in meetings and for conducting administrative work. Above average agility may be desirable in defending oneself (or others) against physical attack/abuse. Work requires physical health, normal use of arms and legs, and good visual and auditory acuity.
Basic Requirements:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates: For the full performance level of GS-11, completion of one year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade directly related to the position being filled, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in occupational therapy or a directly related field. In addition, you demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities listed below in the "Evaluations" section.
