The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for one (1) Staff Occupational Therapist (OT), assigned to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS)located in the Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Line (RTCL) at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). The incumbent has the full range of duties of an occupational therapist and is responsible for evaluating referred patients and establishing and executing treatment plans that include a full range of treatment procedures and modalities. Incumbent provides a broad range of treatment to patients and may use a variety of modalities in patient treatment including but not limited to use of assistive devices, activities of daily living training, use of heat, cold, water, electricity, therapeutic exercises, cognitive retraining, and splinting. The incumbent serves under the supervision of the Clinical Director, Physical Medici ne and Rehabilitation. Duties include but not limited to:
- Plan, revise and implement treatment programs based upon initial and interim evaluations, including the patient and family in the process.
- Utilize principles and techniques in the occupational therapy assessment and treatment of occupational, cognitive, and psychological functional deficits.
- Interpret evaluation findings to develop and coordinate intervention plans, including goals and methods to achieve stated goals.
- Implement intervention plans directly or in collaboration with others.
- Monitor's the patient's response to interventions and modifies treatment plan and reevaluates as indicated.
- Adapt assessment tools and treatment to the complexity of the diagnosis or disabilities and demonstrates the clinical reasoning necessary to identify the need for further in depth specific assessment of function and utilization of non-standard methods and techniques.
- Serve on committees in PM&R or the Medical Center, participates in community or professional organizations.
- Maintain patient records, statistics, etc. required by and for the section/service/center.
- Maintain courteous, effective communication with all medical center staff, patients and families.
- Maintain clinic and equipment in a safe and orderly manner in accordance with Safety and Infection control policies, JCAHO/CARF regulations and other relative regulatory policies.
- Maintain appropriate and timely documentation in the medical records.
- Communicate and collaborate with the patients, family members, caregivers, interdisciplinary professionals or other individuals verbally and in writing.
- Provide appropriate devices for activities of daily living and upper extremity support.
- Document patient progress in accordance with established policies.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or 8:00 am to 4:30pm, may involve some Saturday coverage.

Grade Determinations: GS-11: In addition to meeting the basic requirements; You must have completed one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing assessments and treatment interventions for a wider range of human functioning systems. or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in occupational therapy or directly related field.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
