This position is located in the U.S. Mint, Manufacturing Department, Coining Division. The description covers the paramount duties to be performed but does not exclude additional duties that may be assigned. Any additional duties assigned, however, must be consistent with the classification of this position. This position is responsible for training employees in Heat Treating and Blanking duties, re-certifies employees not in the MCAP Program and Acts in the absence of the Supervisor when required.

As a Heat Treater Leader, you will:
- Train Heat Treaters (Annealers and Blankers) in the operations, disassembly and repair of specific sections of metal forming machines, determines the nature and extent of necessary repairs and how to make needed repairs by adjusting, replacing, or reworking worn or damaged components.
- Operate annealing equipment and auxiliary equipment to soften metal blanks and clean them in preparation for further processing. The work includes operation of blank screening equipment.
- Light and adjust gas burners, setting temperature and rotation controls and fills furnace hopper.
- Regularly inspect blanks for oxidation, overheating, hardness, dampness, and discoloration, and takes appropriate action or notifies the supervisor. Maintain proper water and acidity levels in quench tank. Drain and clean skip tanks as needed. Blanks discharge from the annealing furnace to the quench tank. Blanks are then hoisted and tipped into the washing unit. From the washing unit, blanks go to the rinsing unit and then to the Rotary Tunnel Air Drier. Annealed blanks are then screened by use of shakers into proper containers and transported to other areas by use of hoist, crane, and power trucks.
- Advise on methods and procedures to be followed, work with other workers and set the pace and demonstrate proper work methods and procedures. Also responsible for obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
