As the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations , Attorney Advisor, you will be responsible for using a demonstrated understanding of or familiarity with the workings of the Department of Veterans Affairs to:
- Oversee the conduct of inspections to determine compliance with OI, Council of the Inspectors General for Integrity and Efficiency, and the Attorney General Policy requirements; and recommends needed improvements to ensure successful results in external peer reviews.
- Plan, develop, and implement investigative policies, procedures, standards, requirements, methods, procedures, and techniques. Analyzes new or revised regulations, policies, Federal statutes, court decisions and procedures affecting VA programs and operations to identify new initiatives and the need for new policies and resources.
- Direct the activities of highly specialized programs that support OI criminal and administrative investigations through subordinate elements staffed by the technical experts in computer crimes forensics and document forensics.
- Coordinate data sharing with other Federal law enforcement organizations, the Veterans Benefits Administration, Austin Automation Center, VA Financial Services Center, the Department of Defense Manpower Data Center, and other organizations.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance consistent with applicable law and the interpretations there of by VA’s General Counsel, on issues relating to the conduct of OIG criminal and administrative investigations, and other initiatives designed to prevent or detect inefficiency, waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in VA programs and operations.
Current career Senior Executives, QRB-certified graduates of SES candidate development programs, and individuals with SES reinstatement eligibility are not required to address the executive core qualifications. They are required to address the technical qualifications. All other applicants are required to address both the executive core qualifications and the technical qualifications.
Demonstrated experience leading, directing and monitoring a comprehensive Federal criminal or administrative investigative program involving broad and complex issues of fraud, waste, abuse, or misconduct by senior officials through a large geographically dispersed professional workforce.
Demonstrated experience leading a program that develops, implements, and ensures compliance with investigative policy and procedures.
Education Requirements: Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and bar membership.
