This is a seasonal full time temporary position not-to-exceed 6 months (1040 hours in a service year) at the Klamath Falls Fish and Wildlife Office, located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Incumbent may be rehired in subsequent years as long as 1040 hours has not been exceeded in the previous year.
As a Biological Science Technician, you will perform and resolve a full-range of assignments in support of professional biologists who are responsible for conserving aquatic species and their habitats, conservation of at-risk species, mitigation, restoration, and recovery of listed species.

Physical Demands: Work involves regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, walking over wet, rocky surfaces; stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and reaching, which lasts most of the workday. Physical exertion to collect data, long hours in the field during daylight and nighttime hours or handling and examining large fish for extended periods of time. Lifting and carrying heavy items weighing over 50 pounds weight for short distances e.g., supplies, equipment, feed, etc. You must be able to swim, wade, and tolerate the risk of cold-water immersion.
Work Environment: Field work involves risks and discomforts caused by the physical surroundings. Work will be performed during weekends, daylight, and/or nighttime hours for extended periods. Work requires working with unpleasant odors as well as those that can cause physical reaction upon contact.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements specified under either A, B, or C below:
A. One year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service, as described in the vacancy announcement. Specialized experience is defined as: assisting in conducting field investigations for fish and/or aquatic species and their habitats using active and passive capture methods; assisting in collecting, compiling, and summarizing scientific data for biological reports. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information to be found qualified.
B. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to fishery subjects, such as fishery biology, ichthyology, limnology, etc.
C. An equivalent combination of specialized experience (as in A above) and education (as in B above) that, when prorated, combine to meet the qualification requirements for this position. Experience and education are each computed as percentages of their respective requirements and must equal 100 percent when combined. (Only education beyond the second year is creditable to meet this standard.)
